Minutes of the 2011 QV BIA Annual General Meeting

Presented by John Therien, Chair and Serge Faucher, Vice-Chair

5pm – 7 pm

Suzanne Valiquet introduced John Therien, Chair of the QV BIA. John elaborated the QV BIA’s various programs and the roles and responsibilities of each committee.

Safety & Physical Environment Committee

  • 4th year – new Manager of Operations
  • More surveillance patrollers from June to October (5)
  • Work closely with Ottawa Police Services, City of Ottawa Bylaw and Vanier Resident Association
  • Directs crime/graffiti/suspicious activities to appropriate services
  • Attracted more merchant members to join Safety and Physical Environment Committee
  • Give direction and information about our commercial and residential area to visitors
  • New butt stop program – 10 new thru Keep America Beautiful
  • Less graffiti and vandalism to businesses, more prevention initiatives
  • Continue to address problem addresses and public areas

Result: CREATES A SAFER COMMERCIAL ZONE

Marketing Committee

  • 4th Annual Business Gala – recognizing QV BIA merchants for their successes in our community – Mayor Jim Watson was BIAs honoured guest
  • Launch of new QV Website…vanierbia.com
  • New Social Media initiatives and approaches, linking members to facebook and twitter accounts
  • New door-to-door surveys establishing merchant priorities and mainstreet streetscape improvements
  • New Communications and Special Events Manager and Social Media Coordinator

Result: PROMOTES POSITIVE STORIES OF OUR MERCHANTS AND ATTRACTS NEW CUSTOMERS

Economic Development Committee

  • 4th Annual Beechwood Pumpkinfest –more than 50 merchants participated
  • 4th Vanier Famers Market – biggest success ever!
  • New market research studies – used in our business recruitment strategy
  • 4th OBIAA and IDA Conferences
  • New BIA Boundary Expansion Project – scheduled for 2012

Result: STIMULATES THE LOCAL ECONOMY AND ATTRACTS NEW BUSINESSES TO THE AREA

A show of hands were given in accordance with the budget and programs. Several new merchants indicated that they wanted to join the various committees and play a more active role in the association’s monthly activities
