Meet the Merchants

Traditional French- Style Caribbean Cuisine comes to Montréal Road!

Créole Sensations-Owner/Chef Josette PaulWhen you walk into Créole Sensations at 165 Montréal Road, it’s welcoming, like the inside of someone's kitchen, exactly the reaction owner and chef Josette Paul wants, “Cozy and Nice!”

Like all great Caribbean restaurants, Créole Sensations is all about the flavour.

“All Caribbean’s eat the same thing, but prepare it differently,” says Paul. “The English Caribbean has curry and jerk but the Haitian Caribbean eat like the French from France. We prepare food with sauces, gravy and tomato paste. Spice is used separately. It’s a very tasty way of making Caribbean dishes.”

Tasty and unique!  Créole Sensations serves up Fried Goat – a moist and tender dish uniquely prepared and not found anywhere else in Ottawa.  Other items include the very popular Fried Pork, Stewed Lambi, Chicken and Oxtail served in Créole Sauce.  Ms. Paul is proud of her menu and rightly so.

“I have 2 fryers, one to fry pork only and one for the other meat.  That way I can properly serve anyone who doesn’t eat pork.  My rice, peas and chicken are very popular. It’s hard to say which one is the favourite because I sell all of them.

Ms. Paul came to Canada from Haïti as a teenager and settled in Vanier.  This is her second restaurant in the QV BIA (in 2003 she owned Chay Nou on McArthur Avenue) and she plans to always stay in the area.

“When I married my husband we lived in a basement apartment on Marquette Street and Vanier is dear to me,” says Paul. “Plus, the friendliness of the Community, people want to know all about you.  That’s why I choose to stay here in Vanier.”
