OACP Community Mobilization Award
The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police has selected a winner for an award for outstanding work with a police agency in mobilizing resources for a special cause. This award recognizes a community that has shown continuing efforts to make their neighborhood a safer, more secure place to live. We are proud to say that this award has been given to our own community of Vanier, and resident and Chair of the Beautification Committee, Mrs. Debbie St Aubin. She has been chosen to receive the award on behalf of the partners involved in this great initiative. We are so fortunate and proud to have Debbie as one of our own! The event will take place on June 22nd in Sudbury during the association conference.

Street Beautification Program
Once again this summer we will have students giving us a hand to help clean up the Quartier!
Summer in the Quartier Vanier means weather is starting to look up and our hands are busy at work! Through the QV and the Beautification Committee, we will be engaging in new projects, such as adding a bit of flower power to our streets - don’t worry, we’ll keep you updated! We are also continuing the work of managing and restoring the street furniture in the Quartier. This means fixing, restoring, or removing some of our old broken down benches and tree cages.
We have installed new garbage bins on all three of our commercial streets. Look for the QV logo! The City of Ottawa gave us a hand with installation and may be donating a few more bins. Be sure to use them, and tell your neighbours and clients.

QV Walkabouts
A new endeavor with the QV is a weekly Walkabout. In order to keep our district in tip-top shape, we are working closer with the City of Ottawa, By-Law, and OC-Transpo staff. We are also encouraging our businesses and friends in the area, to report anything that they feel the city should be aware of by dialing 311. We have also had a problem with stray shopping carts. We encourage anyone noticing carts that have not been returned to call the respective business owners and remind them of the location. Don’t hesitate to contact us as well.

The New QV Patrols
QV Patrol in action! Our partnership with La Cité Collégiale has launched a new safety patrol to be the eyes and ears of Quartier Vanier. They will be identifiable with QV Patrol shirts, so don’t hesitate to introduce yourself or inform them of any problems that you may have seen.

Art in the QV
An art showcase is in the works to run in tandem with the QV Market in the fall. We are hard at work with planning our first series of art events. If you perform live art (musicians, dancers, and other talents), or create visual arts (eg. painting, photography), we would love to hear from you. Contact Derek to inquire about Art in the QV: dmuldoon@vanierbia.com.

McArthur Clean Sweep
Our third broom event came to McArthur on May 15th for the “McArthur Clean Sweep!” A special thanks to Ottawa Police Services for use of their property and their enthusiastic participation. Another big thank-you to everyone who came out to once again sweep the QV toward success. Our streets are looking fantastic and we encourage everyone to keep sweeping and do their own part for the Quartier.
