Because Vanier is such a vibrant and financially practical part of Ottawa, we’re experiencing an abundance of new residents with more disposable income. By 2015, the population of Quartier Vanier BIA’s trade area is expected to increase to 84,000.
Expansion occurs through an influx of new residents and boundary expansion, which is regulated by the Ontario Municipal Act.
The Quartier Vanier BIA surveyed merchants and residents on how they would like to capitalize on expansion. Here are some of their answers:
- More cafés and restaurants
- Additional specialty and clothing shops
- Better policing and improved sense of security
- Upgrades to existing businesses
- An emphasis on attracting dynamic new businesses
- Additional parking
As the geographic core of Ottawa’s east end, Vanier is in an ideal position to extend its boundaries to include businesses not currently covered by the benefits of a BIA.
